Overview
This webinar provides an in-depth look at depressive disorders and their co-occurrence with alcohol use disorder. It examines the complex, bidirectional relationship between alcohol use and a full spectrum of depressive disorders—how each can intensify the other—and presents evidence supporting the safety and effectiveness of both pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy in treating individuals with co-occurring major depressive disorder and alcohol use disorder. The webinar uses case-studies to explore specific patient scenarios and provide practical treatment guidelines including motivational interviewing tips, risk assessments, and considerations for prescribing medications.

The target audience for this introductory level activity includes: All types of healthcare professionals.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion, learners will be able to:

Rebecca Payne, MD
Dr. Payne completed psychiatry residency and an addiction psychiatry fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). She practiced in a variety of settings as an Associate Professor at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Department of Neuropsychiatry and Behavioral Science prior to assuming her role as the Medical Director of the South Carolina Recovering Professional Program (SCRPP) in 2020. She is board-certified in psychiatry, addiction psychiatry, and forensic psychiatry and is an active member of the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry.
