Host: Addiction Technology Transfer Center
Recorded: June 2, 2026
Enduring Training

Overview

This training focuses on the identification and management of alcohol use disorder (AUD) in primary care settings, highlighting the prevalence and impact of AUD and the critical role primary care plays in addressing it. Using real-world clinical scenarios, participants explore evidence-based screening tools to identify at-risk patients and apply diagnostic criteria to assess AUD and determine severity. The session will guide learners in matching patients to appropriate levels of care, including referral decisions using the ASAM Criteria. Participants also review appropriate pharmacologic treatments and brief behavioral interventions for AUD, while building skills to support patient engagement, address ambivalence, and coordinate care effectively. In addition, the training will examine common co-occurring physical, mental health, and substance use comorbidities to support more comprehensive and integrated care.
