Overview
This 60-minute case-based discussion presented by Carolyn Swenson will explore key components of preventing the initiation and escalation of alcohol use in adolescents and include identifying risk and protective factors, screening, brief motivational interventions, monitoring and support for escalating alcohol use, and the integration of harm reduction and cultural humility when working with adolescents and families. This course is not eligible for credit.
The target audience for this intermediate level activity includes: Prescribers of all types
Learning Objectives
Upon completion, learners will be able to:
- Recognize the role of alcohol in adolescent health and well-being.
- Describe protective and risk factors for adolescent alcohol use.
- Explore screening, motivational brief interventions, and referral to treatment and ongoing support to address primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention.
- Incorporate harm reduction and cultural humility into prevention efforts.
