Overview
This 60-minute case-based discussion presented by Carolyn Swenson explores key components of preventing the initiation and escalation of alcohol use in adolescents. It includes identifying risk and protective factors, screening, brief motivational interventions, monitoring and support for escalating alcohol use, reduce alcohol-related harms, and practice patient centered prevention approaches when working with adolescents and families.
This course is eligible for 1 NBCC Contact Hour and 1 NAADAC CE.
The target audience for this activity includes healthcare professionals of all types.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion, learners will be able to:
- Recognize the role of alcohol in adolescent health and well-being.
- Describe protective and risk factors for adolescent alcohol use.
- Explore screening, motivational brief interventions, and referral to treatment and ongoing support to address primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention.
- Incorporate strategies to reduce the risks associated with alcohol use and patient centered approaches into prevention efforts.
