Overview

This 1-hour session provides an in-depth overview of medications for alcohol use disorder (MAUD), including both FDA-approved and non-FDA-approved options. Participants learn how to develop individualized, patient-centered treatment plans that incorporate pharmacologic strategies to support recovery. The session covers the recognition of clinical signs, symptoms, and risk factors associated with alcohol withdrawal syndrome, equipping attendees with the knowledge to assess and manage withdrawal safely and effectively in various care settings.

This course is not eligible for credit. 

The target audience for this introductory level activity includes: All types of healthcare professionals. 

The IOM Competencies include: Provide Patient-Centered Care and Employ Evidence-Based Practice.

The ACGME Competencies include: Patient Care and Procedural Skills and Medical Knowledge.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion, learners will be able to:

  1. Describe FDA-approved and non-FDA-approved MAUD
  2. Determine how to develop patient-centered treatment plans using MAUD
  3. Recognize the clinical signs, symptoms, and risk factors for alcohol withdrawal syndrome
